Physical Therapy

So I went to PT and my therapist told me that since I went from nothing to running most days I developed a super tight ITB band from weak muscles. I guess that since my muscles weren't strong enough I needed to work on them a bit before jumping into running. When you run and your muscle gets overused and tired, it passes on the motion to another muscle that then gives out and moves to another muscle group etc. With all my muscles being used in ways they aren't used to or supposed to work in It just made everything a bit off balanced and was causing the pain all over. He gave me 3 different ITB banc stretches, calf and abdominal strengthening and 2 hip flexor stretches. I have been trying to do them religiously and am happy that I will probably be back in the groove soon!

I can't do the math!

So I have my PT eval scheduled for this Thursday afternoon. I am not 100% better yet by far so I literally am in pain every day just walking around and biking. I am really unhappy and hoping for that "majic" cure. Wish me luck. I'll keep you posted.

Day 56

Still injured here. My hip is really hurting me. I am planning on scheduling an outpatient PT visit for next week because everyone is giving me a different diagnosis. Basically it is some sort of inflamation from overuse be it bursitis or tendonitis. I'm hanging in here but I am pretty bummed. Tomorrow at practice we are getting a talk on nutrition so that should be fun.

Day 52

Halloween! I ended up staying in to give out candy because everyone was out of the house. Kristen didn't come home from the gym until 9pm when the whole shebang is over so although I had thought I'd run a bit tonight, I didn't have a chance. I am going to go up and stretch out a lot though. See if that helps my hip flexor at all.

Day 51

Today I am babysitting again and will ask them to write the check out to the Arthritis Foundation instead of me. It's only for a few hours but everything adds up at the end of the day! It is a rest day so I need to ice a lot today!

Day 50

Today I was back running with the group. I was a bit slower than usualy to try to avoid knee pain. After about 1.5-2 miles I felt some tenderness in my right hip flexor. My knee only hurt a few times when I sort of mistepped. I did a lot of walk/run to ease into the running so I was running alone more than with the group. I also took a break half way to talk to the coach. We ran a different way down to the river then ran from the Mass Ave bridge to the BU bridge and back the same way. I tried to calculate the distance on Google pedometor and it said 6.65 miles. So 6.5 miles basically in about 1.5 hours. I went home and iced!

Day 49

Tomorrow is the big day. See how my knee feels on a group run. I'm scheduled for 6 miles. The bad news is it is going to be FREEZING tomorrow. I need to give it a try though. The weather isn't going to get any better. I think that it might even snow!?! Crazy, hu? I'll have to let everyone know how that goes.
